Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that they have signed veteran forward Sean O'Connor for the 2008-09 season.
The 6-2, 220lbs O'Connor played for the Phoenix RoadRunners last season and is coming off his best offensive season. He competed in 63 games collecting 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points while adding 124 minutes in penalties. He also notched 10 power play goals and 4 game winning goals.
"Sean is a physical forward who is able to create offensively," General Manager and Head Coach Mark Morrison said, "He is a veteran in this league and will add to our compliment of forwards who bring speed and forechecking abilities."
The Victoria native is entering his seventh professional season after playing in both AHL and the ECHL during his career. He has played in 277 games accumulating 82 goals and 57 assists for 139 points and has collected 689 minutes in penalties as a professional.
The 26-year-old is considered a veteran by ECHL standards (having competed in more than 260 professional games). Each team is allowed to have four veteran players on its roster. O'Connor is the Salmon Kings third veteran along with Wes Goldie and Tim Wedderburn.
O'Connor had also been an offensive force against the Salmon Kings in the past. The forward had played in 12 games versus Victoria collecting 9 goals and 5 assists for 14 points.
Prior to turning professional he was drafted by the Florida Panthers in the third round (#82 overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He played his junior hockey in the WHL with the Moose Jaw Warriors. During his three years in Moose Jaw he participated in 184 games and notched 54 goals and 42 assists for 96 points while accumulating 493 penalty minutes.
