Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

Cincinnati, OH – The Cincinnati Cyclones are one win away from clinching a berth in the 2002 ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs thanks to their sixth consecutive win on Friday night 5-1 over the Peoria Rivermen at Firstar Center.

After falling behind early in the game, Cincinnati used two first period goals from Don Biggs just four minutes apart to pull ahead 2-1 after one period of play.

In the second period, Cincinnati got a pair of goals from forward Matt Noga just 2:07 apart to build a 4-1 lead. Noga, who returned to the lineup this week after missing two weeks with an injury, registered his 20th and 21st goals of the season.

Captain Nick Bootland added his 25th goal of the season at 15:43 of the third period.

The Cyclones magic number to clinch a spot stands at two points. They still lead the Wheeling Nailers by three points, as Wheeling won at Reading 3-2 in a shootout. One Cincinnati win or one Wheeling loss, and the Cyclones clinch. The Cyclones and Nailers face each other Sunday afternoon at Firstar Center.

Cincinnati travels to Peoria, Illinois to take on the Rivermen in the second part of the home-and-home series Saturday night at 8:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 1360 Homer, The Sports Animal via tape delay and live over the Internet at www.cycloneshockey.com.
