Titans' Stafford Wins ECHL Sportsmanship Award

PRINCETON, N.J. - The East Coast Hockey League announced on Friday that Ben Stafford of the Trenton Titans has been named the recipient of the 2002 ECHL Sportsmanship Award as determined in a vote of ECHL coaches.

Stafford is the first rookie in history to earn the award that was first awarded in 1996-97.

Named to the ECHL All-Rookie team on Thursday, the 23-year-old rookie has 40 penalty minutes and 61 points (22g-39a) in 56 games with the Titans. Selected to the Northern Conference roster for the 2002 Sovereign Bank/ECHL All-Star Game, Stafford scored 110 points (38g-72a) in 122 games in four seasons for Yale University.

The native of Edina, Minn. is currently playing for Providence in the American Hockey League where he has 14 points (3g-11a) in 18 games. He has also played for Philadelphia and Saint-John in the AHL in 2001-02.
