Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Beloit, WI - The Snappers finished their homestand on a positive note, avoiding a series sweep with a 4-2 win over Burlington. A three-run seventh inning that included a booming home run from JJ Schwarzgave the Snappers a lead they would not again relinquish.

Thursday night began as a pitchers' duel between Snappers starter Chase Cohen (4-5, 6.55 ERA) and his mound opponent Cristopher Molina (3-3, 1.82 ERA). Anthony Churlin's RBI groundout put Beloit on the board in the first inning, but Molina settled in and did not allow a hit over the next five frames. Spencer Griffin knotted the affair at 1-1 with a sacrifice fly off Cohen in the fourth.

After struggling to the tune of a10.98 ERA over his last seven starts, Cohen looked much more like the pitcher who posted a sterling 1.71 ERA in his first four outings of 2019. A long first inning prevented him from going deep into the game, but Cohen managed five innings while allowing just one unearned run on two hits. The righty walked three and struck out four.

Molina took a one-hit gem into the seventh inning, but that was when the Snappers finally broke out the bats for the first time this series. Devin Foyle led off with a single and then moved to second on a stolen base, setting the stage for Churlin's go-ahead RBI single. Schwarz followed with a two-run moonshot that extended Beloit's lead to 4-1.

Charlie Cerny surrendered an RBI single to Nonie Williams in the eighth, but was otherwise solid as he recorded the two-inning save. Michael Danielak earned the win after tossing two shutout innings in relief of Cohen.

Schwarz and Churlin supplied all of the firepower on Thursday, as they had two RBIs apiece. Churlin extended his hitting streak to five games, during which he is hitting .333.

Beloit begins a weather-induced five-game series with the Timber Rattlers in Appleton tomorrow at 5:35 p.m. CT. The Snappers will likely welcome the brief road trip, as they are a much more respectable 13-16 away from Pohlman Field as opposed to 8-20 within its confines. Beloit plays a pseudo-double-header tomorrow night: Michael Murray (0-4, 13.97 ERA) will take the ball in the continuation of April 17's suspended game while Reid Birlingmair (2-1, 3.06 ERA) will throw the nightcap.

The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362- 2272 or visit our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
