Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored four times in the fourth inning Sunday to wrap up their fourth consecutive win against the Beloit Sky Carp. With the win, the Chiefs took five of six from the visiting Sky Carp.
In what was a pitching rematch from Tuesday, Dionys Rodriguez and Jared Poland traded zeroes through the first two innings.
It took until the third inning for both offenses to break through. After a two-out single from Jacob Berry, Jake Thompson lined a home run over the right field wall to give Beloit an early 2-0 cushion.
In the home half, Tyler Reichenborn cut the deficit in half. Reichenborn smashed a 3-1 pitch out to left to make it a 2-1 ballgame. For Reichenborn, it was his second blast of the series and his fourth of the year to tie for the team lead.
After the Sky Carp placed runners at first and second with no one out in the fifth inning, the Chiefs turned to Gustavo Rodriguez out of the bullpen. The right-hander rolled up a 4-6-3 double play and a groundout to keep the deficit at 2-1.
The Chiefs took the lead for good in the home half of the fifth, plating four runners. After an Elijah Cabell walk and a Reichenborn single, Cabell swiped third and Reichenborn followed up to put men at second and third for Victor Scott. The Peoria lead-off man plated Cabell with a line drive single to tie the score at 2-2. Later in the frame, Jimmy Crooks stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and one out. The Peoria designated hitter grounded sharply to first. After Ynmanol Marinez recorded an out at home, the return throw sailed into right field, scoring two more Chiefs runs.
With the lead at 4-2, Osvaldo Tovalin extended his hit streak to 12 games with an infield hit to score Crooks.
From there, the 5-2 lead was more than enough for the Peoria bullpen. The trio of Gustavo Rodriguez, Zane Mills and Andrew Marrero combined to allow just one hit over the game's final five innings. Marrero worked around a two-out walk to secure his seventh save of the season.
Following a Monday off day, the Chiefs begin a 12-game road swing in Lansing, Michigan on Tuesday. The Chiefs and Lugnuts are due for a 6:05 first pitch.
