Chiefs Split DH in Front of Sellout Crowd

oria, IL - In front of the biggest Dozer Park crowd (7,837) in two years, Alvaro Seijas pitched the first complete game and shutout of his career as the oria Chiefs split the Wednesday double header falling 2-1 in game one and winning 6-0 in game two against the Beloit Snappers. The shutout is the Chiefs' seventh of the season which ties them for the league lead with Quad Cities as they improve to 17-20 on the season.

In game one, the Snappers broke the tie in the top of the fourth against Chiefs starter Diego Cordero. Beloit loaded the bases with no outs and Cooper Goldby singled home two runs for the 2-0 lead.

The Chiefs cut into the deficit in the bottom of the seventh against Beloit reliever Eric Marinez. Josh Shaw singled with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Shaw scored on Malcom Nunez's first hit as a Chief, a single up the middle to make the score 2-1. The Snappers got the final out to secure the win in game one.

Cordero (2-2) took the loss after pitching six innings, allowing two runs on nine hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Thomas St. Clair pitched one inning allowing only one hit and notching one strikeout.

After a scoreless start to game two, the Chiefs got on the board in the bottom of the second against Beloit starter Michael Murray. Leandro Cedeno and Brendan Donovan walked to put runners on first and second, then Shaw singled to load the bases. Jhon Torres hit a sac fly to score Cedeno from third to give the Chiefs the 1-0 lead with his first RBI as a Chief. Nunez smashed a double for his first extra-base hit to score Donovan and Shaw scored on a single by Wadye Ynfante to push the lead to 3-0. The rally kept going as Brandon Riley singled to score Nunez and Ynfante scored on a fielding error by Beloit center fielder Lester Madden to break the game open at 5-0.

The Chiefs continued to roll in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Nunez, Ynfante and Riley singled to load the bases. Nunez scored as Ivan Herrera reached on a fielder's choice to increase the lead to 6-0.

Seijas (2-4) gets his second win of the season as he pitched the first complete game and shutout of his career. He pitched seven innings, allowing only five hits with two walks and notching seven strikeouts.

The Chiefs continue their nine-game homestand with a four-game series against the Quad Cities River Bandits Thursday at 6:35 p.m. Promotions can be found on the team website or social media accounts. oria will start LH Jacob Schlesener (0-3, 11.85) against Quad Cities RH Jojanse Torres (2-0, 0.00).
