Spokane, Wash. -- The Spokane Chiefs exploded for seven goals on Saturday night at Spokane Arena, defeating the rival Tri-City Americans, 7-1. Six different skaters scored for the Chiefs, led by team captain Bear Hughes with two.
Spokane got on the board early when defenseman Raegan Wiles scored for the second-straight game, firing a shot from the right point through traffic to beat Tri-City netminder Tomas Suchanek.
The Chiefs added to their lead just 33 seconds into the second when Hughes picked up his 17th of the year, capitalizing on a scrum in front of the Americans' net to slide the puck over the line.
Samuel Huo cut the deficit in half for Tri-City at 15:00 of the second but Spokane answered back with 52 seconds left when Chase Bertholet wristed a beautiful power play goal in from the left circle.
The Chiefs carried a 3-1 lead into the second intermission and piled on in the third, adding two goals int he first 1:32 of the final frame. Ty Cheveldayoff, fresh off a two-assist effort on Friday night, beat an out-of-position Suchanek for his third of the season at 1:12.
