
Chiefs Fall to Lansing 8-2 Wednesday Night

Peoria, IL- The Peoria Chiefs allowed three home runs and fell 8-2 to the visiting Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Chiefs back to two games below .500 at 21-23 and 8.5 games back of first place Beloit.
Peoria fell behind for the 12th consecutive game when Sean Shoffit banged a two out triple off the wall in left field that scored Scott Campbell and Yuber Rodriguez to give Lansing a 2-0 lead. Joey Metropoulos followed with an RBI double to the gap in left center field off Chiefs starter Jake Renshaw to drive in Shoffitt.
The Chiefs answered the Lugnuts scoring for the third straight night in the next half inning when Ryne Malone walked and came around to score on an RBI single by Josh Lansford to make the deficit 3-1. Alfred Joseph followed with a single to right but the Chiefs stranded runners at second and third to end the inning.
Rodriguez continued to swing a hot bat for the Lugnuts this series when in the fifth inning he connected on his second home run of the series, a solo shot off Renshaw to extend the Lansing lead to 4-1.
The Chiefs again responded in the bottom of the fifth after Camp walked for the second time and Jonathon Mota smashed an infield single as Camp scored. Lansford then reached on a fielder's choice to cut the lead in half at 4-2.
The long ball hurt the Chiefs again in the sixth inning when Matt Liuzza hit a two-run shot off Renshaw to put Lansing out in front 6-2 and end Renshaw's night. . In the next inning, Sean Shoffit hit a 0-2 Chuckie Platt pitch over the left center field to make it 8-2.
Renshaw worked 5 1/3 innings allowing six runs on five hits while striking out five and walking two. Jake has now lost back-to-back starts at home for the first time this season and is 1-2 at O'Brien Field. Lugnuts starter Nate Starner worked six innings to pick up the win while allowing two runs on three hits and recording eight strikeouts. Edward Rodriguez worked three innings of relief to pick up his second save.

Josh Lansford (3B)- Josh went 1-for-4 with two RBI in the game to give him 19 on the season. He ha also hit safely in six of the last 7 games and has 15 RBI in the month of May.
Notes... The Lugnuts have now hit seven home runs in the first three games of the series...The Chiefs pitching staff has allowed 31 home runs this season...The Chiefs have dropped 6.5 games in the standings since last Wednesday...Peoria is 3-9 in the last 12 games...The Chiefs 2-3-4 hitters went 4-12 with all four hits in the game...Matt Camp and Jim Adduci both had 4-game hitting streaks snapped...Thursday night will mark the 5th Anniversary of the opening of O'Brien Field...The first 1500 fans will receive a replica stadium model of O'Brien Field courtesy of Methodist...There will also be another spectacular post-game fireworks show...The series continues on Thursday evening at 6:30 PM as the Chiefs will send RHP Robert Hernandez (0-1, 3.50) to the mound against Graham Godfrey (1-1, 2.25 ERA)...The game can be heard live online at www.peoriachiefs.com beginning with the pre-game at 6:15 PM.
