West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today that RHP Phil Napolitan has been placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 21, and RHP Jose Fragoso is joining the team from extended spring training. This is the Whitecaps first roster move of 2007.
Napolitan has appeared in nine games out of the bullpen for the Whitecaps this season and is 0-1 with a 2.45 ERA in 18.1 innings. His last game was May 18 in Quad Cities when he tossed 2.0 innings with one run allowed.
Fragoso spent the second half of 2006 with the Whitecaps after being promoted to West Michigan on July 24 from Oneonta. The 22-year-old right hander from Santiago, D.R. posted a 1-0 record and 2.33 ERA in 19.1 innings in 13 relief appearances for the Whitecaps last season. He was signed by the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on Sept. 18, 2002 and is in his fifth season of professional baseball. Fragoso will join the Whitecaps today in Beloit before their 7:30 start time.
The Whitecaps are currently 23-19 and in second place in the Midwest League Eastern Division. The move keeps the Whitecaps at 25 active players on their roster and one player on the D.L.
The 'Caps returns home on Sunday, May 27 for two games against Fort Wayne and two games against Lansing. Tickets are still available for all games. Contact the Whitecaps Box Office for more information at 616-784-4131.
