
Chiefs Fall back to .500, Lose 3-1

Peoria, IL â The Peoria Chiefs fell short in their attempt to sweep Beloit, as the Snappers beat the Chiefs 3-1 in front of 3,860 on Sunday afternoon at O'Brien Field. The loss drops the Chiefs back to .500 at 32-32.
Beloit scored in the 2nd inning on an RBI double down the left field line by shortstop Trevor Plouffe off Chiefs starter Jesse Estrada. The double scored first baseman Chris Brown from first. The Snappers stretched their lead to 3-0 one inning later on a two-run triple from David Winfree to score Luke Hughes and Midwest League all-star Deacon Burns.
The Chiefs offense struggled all afternoon but got on the board in the 7th on a Luis Montanez leadoff home run that cleared the netting in left field bounced onto Jefferson Street. He now has six home runs on the season. Bo Flowers and Oscar Bernard added singles in the inning with nobody out but were stranded in scoring position with the score at 3-1.
Peoria threatened one last time in the 8th, as Anthony Granato led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a stolen base and throwing error. He was stranded at third after strikeouts to Ryan Harvey and Montanez.
Anthony Swarzak picked up the victory for the Snappers, his seventh of the season. Jose Mijares got the save, working three scoreless innings of relief with five strikeouts. Jesse Estrada took the loss for the Chiefs, falling to 3-6. He allowed three runs on six hits in five innings.

Luis Montanez (LF) â Montanez hit a towering home run that bounced onto Caterpillar's front lawn in the 7th inning to get the Chiefs on the board. He finished the day 1-for-3.
Notes... Just six games remain in the first half of the season, all against Quad City...Beloit third baseman David Winfree committed errors on consecutive chances in the 4th inning...Winfree now has 21 errors on the season...No Chief had more than one hit Sunday...The Chiefs are off on Monday before traveling to the Quad Cities on Tuesday for the first of two games in Davenport...First pitch against the Swing is set for 7 PM...You can hear the game live on 1350 WOAM and at www.peoriachiefs.com.
