November 12, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs dropped their ninth-straight as the Seattle Thunderbirds skated to a 7-2 victory at Spokane Arena Friday night.
The Thunderbirds got things off to a hot start, scoring three back-to-back-to-back goals within the first five minutes of the game.
Gracyn Sawchyn started the flurry at 1:16 with his fourth of the season, which was quickly followed by Nico Myatovic at 1:34. Kevin Korchinski added another at 4:46 to put Seattle up 3-0 heading into the first break.
Seattle again kicked off the scoring in the second period, as Hyde Davidson got his first of the season at 12:25.
The Chiefs got on the board at 16:35 when Cade Hayes beat out Gabe Ludwig in a footrace to the net and pushed the puck in behind Scott Ratzlaff to score his third of the season unassisted.
But the Thunderbirds closed out the period with two more unanswered goals from Jordan Gustafson and Jared Davidson at 17:14 and 19:06, respectively.
Spokane found the twine just one more time when defenseman Brayden Crampton found Chase Bertholet down ice, who scored on the breakaway to make it 6-2. It was Bertholet's ninth point in the last four games (2G-7A).
That's as close as the Chiefs would get, though, as Kyle Crnkovic capitalized on the man advantage at 15:10 in the third period to cap the scoring at 7-2.
Rookie Cooper Michaluk got the start in net for Spokane and turned away 31-of-38 shots faced. Spokane went 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.
Up next, the Chiefs will host their division rival Tri-City Americans Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. It's the Avista Way to Save Team Poster Giveaway! Don't forget to stick around after the game for the only full-team autograph session of the season, taking place in the Integra Rooms.
