Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - A back & forth affair at Co-op Place saw the Moose Jaw Warriors steal a point from the Medicine Hat Tigers 5-4 in a shootout Friday night.

In the first of a home at home against the Warriors the Tigers fell behind early in the 1st period as Harper Lolacher tipped home his 1st WHL past Tigers goaltender Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) 4:45 in, and that was followed up with an Eric Alarie power play goal at 9:21 to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.

The Tigers would find their legs in the second period as Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) just as a Tiger powerplay had expired beat Warriors netminder Connor Ungar short side over the glove to get the Tigers into the swing of things at 3:36. But Moose Jaw would comeback with a goal of their own as Atley Calvert beat Beckett Langkow on the backhand to make it 3-1 Warriors at 9:51.

Cue the Tigers again for a pair of goals as Tyler MacKenzie would be the beneficiary on a wrap around attempt by Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) scoring his 7th of the season at 11:12, Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YT) would add his 5th point of the season in his 5th game played as a Tiger. Medicine Hat would tie it with the extra man thanks to Wiesblatt's second of the game and team leading 8th of the year to make 3-3 at 13:40. Pasha Bocharov (Escondido, CA) would set-up the Calgarian for the game tying goal to that point for a tie heading to the third period.

In the final frame it would be Jagger Firkus making quick work of a Tiger turnover snapping his 9th of the season past Langkow to make it 4-3 Warriors at 11:07. But cue Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) after a Cru Hanas (Highland Village, TX) feed would walk in to the left circle and beating Ungar high glove, got the Tigers all square at 4-4 at 12:56.

The Tigers and Warriors would exchange chances but it would not lead to a regulation win for neither and putting the Tigers into the extra frame for the 4th time this year.

After Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) would draw a penalty, the Tigers would get three shots towards Ungar but couldn't solve the Warriors netminder and a shootout would be needed on this very night.

Jagger Firkus would open the shootout up for Moose Jaw scoring in the 1st round while Andrew Basha would keep the Tigers hopes alive scoring in round three but Warriors captain Denton Mateychuk would get the winner shortly after Basha's goal to help the Warriors get the extra point.

Medicine Hat would end up outshooting the Warriors 38-27 and went 1/5 on the power play while Moose Jaw was 1/2 with the extra man.

It's a tight turn around for the Tigers as they'll make their way to Moose Jaw tomorrow finish out their weekend set with the Warriors.

You can catch the game live on the home of the Tigers Wild 94,5 with Gino De Paoli, starting with the pre-game show at 5:45 and puck drop is set for 6 PM.
