ICE CHIPS
The Winnipeg ICE host the Brandon Wheat Kings in the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers in an 8:30 face off tonight at the ICE Cave inside Wayne Fleming Arena.
The ICE are coming off back to back wins this week against the Red Deer Rebels by scores of 3-1 and 7-4. Winnipeg went 4 for 5 on the power play in Wednesday's victory led by Connor McClennon with a pair of goals on the man advantage. Skyler Bruce and Owen Pederson also scored twice while Conor Geekie had the other goal. Pederson finished the game with five points (two goals and three assists). Daniel Hauser made 15 saves.
The ICE have a 5-0 record on their current 10 game homestand.
Last month, Winnipeg became the first Eastern Conference based team to go a perfect 5-0 versus the B.C. Division since the 2011-12 Kootenay ICE.
Carson Lambos was named the 24th Captain in ICE franchise history on October 6th.
The 19 year old returned from Minnesota Wild Training Camp where he appeared in three NHL preseason games. Connor McClennon, Owen Pederson and Ben Zloty were named alternate captains for 2022-23.

The ICE are 3-0 versus the Wheat Kings this season in the Battle of Manitoba presented by Taylor McCaffery Lawyers. The ICE and Wheat Kings play 10 times during the regular season (Sept 24 @ Bran 4-3 OTW / Oct 28 @ Bran 4-1 W / Oct 29 @ Wpg 4-3 W / tonight @ Wpg / Dec 16 @ Bran / Dec 17 @ Wpg / Feb 3 @ Bran / Mar 12 @ Wpg / Mar 24 @ Bran / Mar 25 @ Wpg).
Zach Benson leads the ICE with five points (two goals and three assists) in three games against the Wheat Kings this season.
Winnipeg had an 8-1-1 record versus Brandon during the 2021-22 regular season led by forward Matthew Savoie who registered 16 points (2 goals and 14 assists) in 10 games. Owen Pederson and Mikey Milne led the ICE with six goals each.
