Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (29-18-3-4, 65 Points) were defeated by the Chicago Wolves (32-17-0-4, 68 Points) 5-2 in front of 6,030 fans at Cedar Park Center. Chicago's Brett Sterling scored two goals and added two assists, as the Wolves moved to 7-0-0-2 in the last nine games. Wolves' goalie Peter Mannino (17-3-0) made 26 saves for his ninth straight victory. Stars defenseman Maxime Fortunus and forward Scott McCulloch each scored in the loss, as Texas slid to 16-10-1-2 at home this year. Todd Ford (4-4-1) stopped 29 of 34 Chicago shots. Texas will embark on a five-game road trip starting Tuesday night in Hamilton at 6:30 PM (CST).

The first period stayed scoreless until Chicago got on the board with only 50 seconds remaining. Wolves left wing Brett Sterling picked off a cross-ice pass and scored an unassisted goal from the slot, beating Stars goalie Todd Ford on the gloveside. Sterling's 28th of the season gave Chicago a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Texas tied the game 1-1 at 6:56 of the second period when winger Scott McCulloch found a rebound in front of the net and sent a shot past Wolves goalie Peter Mannino. Mathieu Beaudoin and Perttu Lindgren tallied assists on McCulloch's fourth goal of the year. At 10:25, Chicago left wing Anthony Stewart tipped in a rebound over Ford in the Texas crease, giving the Wolves a 2-1 lead over the Stars. During a power play, Chicago extended its' lead to 3-1. Sterling recorded his second goal of the night after collecting the puck off the end-boards and sending a shot past Ford 14:41 of the middle period. Sterling's power-play goal pushed him into first in the AHL with 29 goals this year. The Stars countered at 16:21 after defenseman Maxime Fortunus fired a shot from the left point, beating Mannino on the stickside. Fortunus' tenth goal of the season brought Texas within a goal of Chicago at 3-2.

In the third period, the Wolves increased their lead to 4-2 when right wing Spencer Machacek knocked in a rebound past Ford at 7:38. Machacek's 12th goal of the year was set up by Sterling and Krog. Chicago finished the scoring at 13:31, Krog put in a rebound for his 11th goal of the season and 5-2 final score.

Prior to the game, the Stars added emergency back-up goaltender Chris Whitley from the CHL's Allen Americans.

Texas will begin a five-game road trip starting with a game against the Hamilton Bulldogs on Tuesday, February 16th at 6:30 PM. The Stars travel to Syracuse on Wednesday, February 17th for a game at 6:00 PM. The team returns home on Friday, February 26th at 7:30 PM to host the Houston Aeros in the State Farm Lone Star Faceoff.
