Syracuse Crunch News Release

Manchester, NH - The Syracuse Crunch offense was stifled again tonight as they fell to the Manchester Monarchs by a 2-0 count in the first-ever meeting between these two teams, in front of 6,250 fans at Verizon Wireless Arena.

AHL All-Star Jonathan Bernier picked up the win and notched his league-leading seventh shutout of the season, stopping all 34 shots he faced

The game was tight through the first 40 minutes, with the Crunch holding the advantage in shots by a 26-17 margin over that span.

For the second time in three games, the Crunch went into the third period knotted in a scoreless tie. Manchester finally broke through at the 10:46 mark of the third, when Geoff Walker set up Corey Elkins in the slot and his wrister fooled Kevin Lalande to make it 1-0 with 9:14 to go.

Bernier made a key stop when the Crunch came in on a 2-on-1 and denied Mike Blunden off a one-timer moving from left to right with about two minutes to play in regulation.

Manchester's Dwight King added an empty-net goal with just six seconds left to play to seal a 2-0 victory.

The Crunch wrap up their mini three game road swing through New England when they travel to Providence to take on the Bruins at the Dunkin' Donuts center tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
