Portland Pirates News Release

Portland, Maine - Tyler Ennis scored a goal and three assists to lead the Portland Pirates to a 5-4 victory over the Adirondack Phantoms in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 5,318 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Mark Mancari added a goal and two assists in the Pirates effort, resulting in an eighth consecutive victory. The eight straight wins ties for the second longest winning streak in franchise history. The Pirates also won eight straight early in the 2008-09 season. Marc-Andre Gragnani, Felix Schutz and Derek Whitmore, with the game winner halfway through the third, also scored for the Pirates, who moved to 29-16-5-2 on the season. Kyle Wanvig collected an assist to extend his point-scoring streak to six games (1-5-6).

Sean Curry, Stefan Legein, Mika Pyorala and Patrick Maroon scored for the Phantoms, who dropped to 24-24-2-2 with the loss.

After trading goals in the opening 11 minutes of the game, the Pirates took over scoring twice in the final three minutes of the first (Ennis and Schutz) to grab a 3-1 lead after one. Mancari struck in the opening four minutes of the second to make it a 4-1 game. But Adirondack answered, scoring three unanswered to close out the period and send the two teams into the third tied at four. Whitmore's power-play goal midway through the period proved to be the difference as the Pirates managed to kill off a six-on-four for the final 35 seconds to preserve the victory.

The Pirates out shot the Phantoms 39-24 in the game as Jhonas Enroth posted the victory.

The Allied Home Mortgage Three stars of the game were all from the Pirates. Ennis was the first, Whitmore the second and Mancari the third.
