Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY - The River Rats scored a franchise record five power play goals and Mike Murphy posted a 23-save shutout to defeat the Binghamton Senators 7-0 Saturday night at the Times Union Center.

Jiri Tlusty led the River Rats with two goals and one assist, while Mike Angelidis and Jerome Samson chipped in a goal and an assist each as Albany matched its all-time high winning margin of seven goals. Chris Terry and Bryan Rodney also enjoyed multi-point nights for the River Rats, posting two assists each in Albany's first win over Binghamton in five tries this season.

Harrison Reed opened the score sheet 7:00 into the contest on the power play with his first goal of the season from Samson and Terry. The River Rats added a second power play marker just 2:02 later, when Jacob Micflikier sent a cross-ice feed to Tlusty for a top-shelf finish.

Samson's team-leading 21st goal of the year marked Albany's third power play tally of the night at 4:00 of the second period, and Tlusty's second score of the game, also on the man-advantage, chased B-Sens starting goalie Chris Holt from the net 1:28 later. Nicolas Blanchard beat relief netminder Mike Brodeur at the 11:00 mark of the second period for a 5-0 lead, and Angelidis made it 6-0 at 18:56 on a sharp feed from behind the net courtesy of Dodge.

Holt returned to his crease in the third period and allowed one more goal, the franchise record-breaking fifth power play marker of the night, scored by Dodge with 4:41 to play.

Murphy's third career shutout marked his 10th win of the season, as Albany improved to 28-20-3-3 this season. Holt stopped 14-of-19 shots faced in 45:28 of action and took the loss, and Brodeur stopped 7-of-5 shots in 14:32 of ice time as the Senators fell to 21-24-3-2 this year. Binghamton out-shot Albany 28-27 in the game and went 0-for-7 on the power plat, while the River Rats went 5-or-7 on the man-advantage.

Albany kicks off a five game week on Monday at 5:00 p.m. against the Norfolk Admirals at the Times Union Center.
