Steiner's late goal lifts Amerks over Monsters

(Rochester, NY)... Daniel Steiner scored the winning goal of tonight's game at The Blue Cross Arena with one minute left in the third to give the Amerks a 3-2 victory over the Lake Erie Monsters. With the win, the Amerks improve to 31-21-2-0 putting them just one win shy of their 2,000th win in the 54-year history of the franchise.. The loss for the Monsters leaves them with a 26-25-0-4 record.

Scoring a goal apiece, Michael Repik and Jamie Johnson earned themselves the second and third star of the night, respectively, helping give the Amerks the win. Leading the Monsters on the night was Randy Rowe who earned the first star with two goals in the game.

Lake Erie's Rowe opened the game with a power-play goal at 2:34 of the opening period. Rowe was able to deflect a Tom Preissing shot from the point past Amerk netminder Tyler Plante. Brett Skinner was also credited with an assist on the play.

Rochester tied the game on a power play of their own, when Repik rifled a shot that deflected off the stick of Skinner and past Monster goaltender Tyler Weiman. Chris Taylor tied Gerry Ehman for third place on the all-time assist list with his 283rd career helper as an Amerk. Evgeny Dadanov also assisted on the score.

Rowe scored his second power-play goal of the game and the only goal of the second period at 2:20 to give the Monsters the 2-1 lead. Winger Darren Haydar was credited with an assist on the play and Skinner earned his second of the night.

In the third, Rochester tied the game when Johnson tipped in a Clay Wilson blast from the blueline at 10:35.

Steiner had the winning goal of the night for the Amerks at 19:00 in the third period to give Rochester the 3-2 win over the Monsters. Jason Garrison took a shot that rebounded off of the Monster's goaltender Billy Sauer straight to Steiner who ripped it into the back of the net. Also assisting on the play was winger Michael Duco.

The Amerks hit the road again on Sunday, February 14th as they travel to Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena to exchange pleasantries with the Binghamton Senators for the second time in a week. The 5:05 p.m. Valentine's Day contest will be the seventh of 10 gatherings between the interstate rivals this season and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Rochester improved to 5-1-0-0 this season against the B-Sens after earning a 5-4 win Saturday night. Rochester is 27-28-5 all-time against the Baby Senators.
