 Tacoma Rainiers

Cheney Stadium Turned Purple

July 25, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA -Cheney Stadium filled with Husky purple on Saturday, July 24 as attendees of all ages came decked out in the color. Reaching a total of nearly 1000, Husky fans, UW alumni, and families came out in force and showed their Husky pride while enjoying a winning Rainiers game and sunny weather.

The first pitch was thrown by Ashley Tuiasosopo, a University of Washington softball player and sister of Rainiers utility player Matt Tuiasosopo. The National Anthem was sung by Breanne Orndorff, a 2010 University of Washington, Tacoma graduate. The Rainiers took the field wearing purple and gold pinstripe jerseys and specialty Husky purple Rainiers hats.

In the Rainiers first-ever live jersey auction, the jerseys worn by the night's starting lineup were auctioned off on field, immediately following the game. Jeff Randall, a former Tacoma Rainiers PA announcer, acted as auctioneer for the event. Over $4000 was raised, with the top jersey, worn by Dustin Ackley, going for nearly $1000. Combined with the totals from the silent auction, t-shirt sale, and specialty Paint the Park Purple group tickets, the event raised over $7,000 for the University of Washington, Tacoma scholarships program.
