Round Rock Express Fall to Iowa Cubs 14-2

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Wellington Castillo's two-run double capped a three-run first inning, and the Round Rock Express never recovered in a 14-2 loss to the Iowa Cubs in Pacific Coast League action Sunday night at The Dell Diamond. The Express (42-60) suffered their third consecutive loss. The Cubs (57-45) clinched the series and lead the season series 11-4.

Micah Hoffpauir led off the third with a homer, and the Cubs put the game away with a four-run fourth inning. Iowa tacked on an unearned run in the fifth and three more scores in the sixth. The Cubs capped the night with a two-run eighth.

Iowa starter Casey Coleman (10-7) picked up the win, holding the Express to one run on four hits and two walks with one strikeout over 5.0 innings.

Express starter Polin Trinidad (3-7) took the loss; he surrendered nine runs, seven of which were earned, on 12 hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

Iowa tallied 19 hits on the night, the second-highest total allowed in a game by the Express this season. Every Cubs starter had multiple hits save two-hole batter Darwin Barney. Castillo, Brad Snyder and Ty Wright each had three hits; Wright had four RBI. Coleman was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Hoffpauir, Snyder and Wright each scored three times.

Drew Locke was 4-for-4 with a double for the Express, posting his second four-hit game of the season. Matt Kata was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.

Round Rock and Iowa conclude their four-game series Monday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. The Express have not yet announced a starter, while right-hander Jeff Samardzija (7-1, 2.76 ERA) will start for the Cubs.

The Round Rock Express, owned and operated by Ryan Sanders Baseball, LP, is the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros and a member of the Pacific Coast League.
