Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Royals and New Orleans Zephyrs exchanged blowout wins in Saturday night's doubleheader at Rosenblatt Stadium. Both used big fifth innings to ice wins in front of 8,068 fans.

Leading 5-2 entering the bottom of the fifth in the opener, the Royals exploded for nine runs to win 14-2. In the nightcap, New Orleans led 3-0 entering the fifth when the Zephyrs scored five times en route to an 8-1 victory.

In the fifth frame of game one, ten straight Royals reached base before the first out was recorded. All nine Omaha batters scored in the fifth, which was the biggest inning for the Royals since a 10-run third inning of an 11-2 win over Tucson on July 31, 2004.

Bryan Bullington (8-2) pitched Omaha's first complete game of the season, allowing two runs on five hits over 7.0 innings, walking one and striking out four. New Orleans starter Brian Lawrence (9-6), who was 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA in his previous two starts this year vs. Omaha, got hammered for 12 runs on 12 hits in 4.0 innings.

David Lough homered for a second straight game in the opener, driving in two runs and scoring three times. Kila Ka'aihue smacked his team-leading 21st home run of the season. Manny Pina had three hits and two RBI.

In the nightcap, Z's starter Adalberto Mendez (4-3) gave up just one unearned run in five innings, limiting the Royals to three hits, while striking out three. Royals reliever Federico Castaneda (3-2) struggled in his spot start, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits in four innings. He issued back-to-back four pitch walks to open the Zephyrs' big fifth inning.

Omaha (52-48) hosts New Orleans (48-51) in a 12:05 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday. The Z's have lefty Wes Whisler (1-3, 6.14) in game one and southpaw James Houser (0-0, 3.26) in game two. The Royals will counter with right-hander Phillip Humber (4-6, 4.83) and righty Gaby Hernandez (7-6, 5.54).

Double the games, double the family fun! It's U.S. Bank Family FUNday, with clowns, face painting and balloon art. Subway Kids Club members get in FREE. After the twinbill, all kids are invited to run the bases with Casey, presented by Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. The day is also presented by KGBI 100.7 FM, Fox 42 and Family Spectrum Magazine.
