TONIGHT: The RedHawks and Memphis Redbirds resume a 4-game series with Game 3 at AutoZone Park. Memphis swept a doubleheader yesterday, taking the opener 2-1 on Mark Hamilton's walk-off homer in the ninth inning off Warner Madrigal. OKC's Michael Kirkman struck out 11 Redbirds in Game 1, the first double-digit strikeout performance by a RedHawk since Robinson Tejeda fanned 11 Redbirds May 17, 2008 at Memphis. In the nightcap, Memphis scored all 4 of its runs in the third off Omar Beltre in a 4-2 win. Memphis has evened the season series 7-7. The Redhawks are 2-5 through the first 7 games of a 9-game trip and lead the American South Division by 2 games. Michael Ballard gets a spot start for OKC against Lance Lynn.
DOUBLEHEADER DOLDRUMS: Memphis swept a doubleheader 2-1 and 4-2 last night, handing the RedHawks their third doubleheader loss of the season and second in a 5-day span. Fresno (May 17) and Iowa (July 20) have also swept twin bills against the RedHawks. OKC has won double dips over Nashville (July 7) and New Orleans (June 16).
SEASON SERIES SWITCH: The RedHawks took the first 2 series against Memphis this season 3 games to 1, in both cases dropping the series finale. Starting with a series finale loss in Oklahoma City to the Redbirds April 27, OKC has dropped 6 of the last 7 head-to-head meetings with Memphis.
HOLLAND TO OKC FOR REHAB: Texas lefty Derek Holland is slated to make a rehab start for the RedHawks in Wednesday's 11:05 am game at The Brick against Round Rock. Holland has been on the Rangers' DL since June 1, (retro May 31) with inflammation of the left rotator cuff. Holland later sustained a subluxation of his right knee during a fielding drill in Surprise, Ariz. Holland was OKC's opening day starter and went 4-1 with a 0.93 ERA in 6 starts before being recalled by Texas May 13. Holland, the PCL's first Pitcher of the Week this season (April 8-19) is 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA in 5 Texas games this season, 4 of them starts.
HARDEN GETS ANOTHER REHAB TURN: Rangers righthander Rich Harden will make his fourth OKC rehab start tomorrow night in the final game of this series at AutoZone Park. Harden, on Texas' DL since June 12 with a strained left gluteal muscle, is 0-2 with a 7.84 ERA in his first 3 rehab appearances including a loss on Wednesday in Iowa when he allowed 6 runs in 2+ innings before retiring the final 9 batters he faced, 6 by strikeouts.
BOGGS ON BASE: Brandon Boggs owns a 23-game on-base streak dating to June 21. He has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 46 starts since May 24, the only break in the streak being a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 62 and fifth in on-base percentage at .406. Since returning from the DL July 15, Boggs has drawn at least 1 walk in 10 of 11 games, receiving 14 bases on balls in that span.
TOPS IN ERA: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.75. Iowa is second at 3.92. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (61) in Triple-A, but have given up 8 home runs in the 7 games on this trip. OKC has allowed the fewest runs (424) and earned runs (363) in the PCL.
DIFFERENTIALLY SPEAKING: The RedHawks have out-scored their opposition 524-424. The +100 run differential is the best in PCL. The International League's Columbus Clippers are also +100. The IL's Durham Bulls are +152. Columbus (62-40) and Durham (60-40) have the best records in Triple-A.
ERROR UPDATE: The RedHawks have made an error in 6 of the past 8 games and have 36 errors in their past 34 games. OKC has not recorded consecutive errorless games since sweeping a doubleheader from New Orleans on June 16. When making an error, OKC is 28-33. When errorless, the RedHawks are 25-13.
