January 30, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Charlotte Checkers News Release
Dayton, O.H. - The Checkers battled the Dayton Bombers for the first time this season and skated away with a 4-1 victory.
In the first period, Checkers defenseman Kenton Smith fired the puck around the boards when a bad bounce resulted in the puck lying in front of Bombers goalie Jeremy Ducheane. Bruce Graham would skate in and flip the puck into net at 13:16 giving Charlotte a 1-0 lead.
During the middle frame while on the power play, Graham fed Mike Bayrack who directed the puck behind Duscheane putting the Checkers up, 2-0 at 11:10.
Charlotte would extend their lead to 3-0 after Chris Capraro fired a shot over the glove of Ducheane at 1:59 of the third period. Despite the Bombers answering back 18 seconds later when Alex Greig wristed a shot that fooled Checkers netminder Chris Holt, Dayton was unable to claw their way back. Mark Lee would score a breakaway goal with less than two minutes left to solidify a 4-1.
Notes: Holt turned aside 32 of 33 while Ducheane stopped 20 of 24...The Checkers scored once on three power play opportunities while the Bombers went scoreless on their four chances.
The Checkers are in their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. Their next home game takes place on Feb. 7 against the South Carolina Stingrays. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.
