Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that forward Ash Goldie has been named the In Glas Co Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Goldie had a spectacular week that included the setting of four records during the All-Star Week festivities, being named the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game and then helping the Salmon Kings to their first series win in Alaska.

"Ash had a tremendous week," Dan Belisle Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager said, "He was exceptional during the All-Star week and then was a very large part of our success in Alaska. Our organization is very proud of him."

On Tuesday night, Goldie set a new ECHL All-Star Game record by accruing six points. He scored three goals and counted three assists in the National Conference's 10-7 victory. The three goals were scored on four shots, and Goldie ended the game with a ranking of +5. The previous record was held by Andy MacIntyre, he collected five points for the Canada All-Stars in the 1998 ECHL All-Star Game.

Goldie was also the front half of the record for two fastest goals by one team in All-Star history. Goldie scored at the 16:55 mark of the second period and that was followed up a mere 16 seconds later when Peter Ferraro of the Las Vegas Wranglers put home the record beating goal. The previous two fastest goals in ECHL All-Star history occurred in 1998 when Mike Lavenders and Andy MacIntyre scored 17 seconds apart for the Canada All-Stars.

The record breaking exploits of Ash Goldie began on Tuesday night, when he set a Skills Competition record in the MeiGray Group Accuracy Shooting Competition. Goldie hit all four of the targets on four shots, and became the first player to do so in the competition's 11 years.

The 26-year-old then followed up his MVP performance at the All-Star Game by scoring four goals and adding two assists in three games versus the Alaska Aces in Anchorage.

On Saturday, he scored one goal and added an assist in the Kings' 4-1 victory. That was followed up with a hat trick and an assist on Sunday helping Victoria to a 7-5 win, and also the team's first ever series win in Alaska as they beat the Aces twice in three attempts. Sunday's four points ties his season high.

Goldie first received the In Glas Co Player of the Week the week ending November 4th.

The Salmon Kings head out on the road next week for a February 5th meeting against the Condors in Bakersfield. The team then returns to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Monday, February 11th for a two game set versus the Fresno Falcons. For further information on ticketing please call 220-7889.
