Victoria's Goldie Named In Glas Co Player Of The Week

January 30, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

Victoria center Ash Goldie is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Jan. 21-27.

Goldie won the award for Oct. 29-Nov. 4 and becomes the second two-time winner this season, joining Aaron Slattengren of Augusta, who won for Jan. 7-13 and Nov. 26-Dec. 2.

The 5-foot-9 and 170-pound Goldie had four goals and six points with a plus-minus rating of +2 as the Salmon Kings went 2-1-0 at Alaska to remain in first place in the West Division with 59 points (27-11-5).

After scoring a goal in a 4-1 win on Jan. 26, the 26 year old tied his season high with four points, including his league-leading third hat trick of the season, in a 7-5 win on Jan. 27.

The London, Ontario native began the week with multiple record-setting performances during the ECHL All-Star festivities in Stockton, Calif. He became the first ECHL player in 11 years to go 4-for-4 in the accuracy shooting, a feat that has been accomplished by a handful of National Hockey League players. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the All-Star Game after setting the league record with six points (3g-3a) while leading the National Conference to a 10-7 win. Goldie, who scored a goal in each period, broke the record of five points set by Andy MacIntyre of the Canada All-Stars, who had four goals and an assist in the 1998 All-Star Game. Goldie scored his third goal 22 seconds into the third period to set the All-Star record for fastest goal at the beginning of a period, breaking the mark of 23 seconds by Luke Curtin of the National All-Stars in 2006. He and Peter Ferraro also broke the record for the fastest two goals by one team at 16 seconds.

In his first season with Victoria, Goldie leads the ECHL with 13 power-play goals and is tied for the lead with five game-winning goals while his 26 goals rank third and his 47 points are eighth.

Goldie played his first two seasons with Long Beach where he had 111 points (61g-50a) and 46 penalty minutes in 113 regular season games and seven points (2g-5a) and two penalty minutes in seven Kelly Cup Playoff games. He played four seasons at Michigan State University where he had 93 points (37g-56a) and 70 penalty minutes in 160 games.

On behalf of Ash Goldie, a case of pucks will be donated to a Victoria, British Columbia area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL.
