Charlotte Checkers News Release

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers are pleased to announce a new program with the Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council to help raise funds and awareness during three nights this season.

On Sunday, November 23rd, the Checkers battle the Gwinnett Gladiators and all Girl Scouts are invited to bring their troops to the game. The three troops with the largest attendance will win the opportunity to sell cookies on the concourse during the Pink in the Rink on Sunday, February 8th. Bring canned goods and receive the first part of the Checkers Program Patch and a free ticket to the game on February 8th. Each Girl Scout troop in attendance will have an on-ice photo opportunity with Chubby.

On Saturday, March 14th, Girl Scouts in attendance will receive the final part of the Checkers Program Patch and also have the opportunity to meet the CheckMate cheerleaders. For more information on the Checkers Girl Scout Patch Program please contact Alice Garmon at 704-444-1887 or agarmon@gocheckers.com.

"We are pleased to partner with the Checkers for the Pink in the Rink program. Girl Scouts Hornets' Nest Council has four main focus areas which include environmental health, community building, STEM, which is science, technology, engineering and math and the one most aligned with this event, healthy living. This is as a great opportunity for our girls to become more aware of issues affecting women today and at the same time have fun," remarked Kim Lewis, M.Ed.

"We are really excited about this multi-faceted program with the local Girl Scouts," remarked Checkers COO Tera Black. "It has the potential to be something that we put on our calendar every year. Plus, any time we can have the opportunity to purchase Girl Scout Cookies, we will certainly take it!"
