
Gladiators Blanked by Everblades, 4-0

The Florida Everblades shut down the Gwinnett Gladiators in a 4-0 win on Saturday night at the Germain Arena in Ester Florida. The Gladiators fall to 2-4-2 on the season in the loss to the Everblades. Netminder Charlie Effinger collected 36 saves in the losing effort for Gwinnett.
The Gladiators and the Everblades skated to a scoreless tie through the first period. Both teams had chances to get onto the scoreboard on the power play in the opening period but neither could break through.
Florida got on the board 1:18 into the second period just seconds after an Everblades power play expired. Jonathan Paiement ripped a slap shot from the left point past Gladiators netminder Charlie Effinger for the marker. With lots of time, Paiement threaded the puck thorugh a bunch of bodies in front of the net screening Effinger for the tally. Yannick Tifu and Kevin Baker collected the assists on the goal for the Everblades.
Colin Nicholson pushed the Everblades lead to 2-0 with a shorthanded tally 12:32 into the second period. Nicholson finished a 2-on-1 break with Mathieu Roy for the marker. Roy knocked the puck down at the Florida blue line and broke thorugh the neutral zone with Nicholson to set up the goal.
Florida pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third period as Michael Grenzy was able to beat Effinger from the right point through traffic for the goal. The marker came 7:38 into the third period as Baker and Ernie Hartlieb collected the assists on the marker.
Baker rounded out the scoring in the contest for the Everblades as he sliped by the Gladiators defense and ripped a shot to the far post past Effinger for the marker. Ross Carlson and Roy collected the assist on the goal for the Everblades at 10:22 of the third period.
Neither team could capitalize on power play chances in the contest as Gwinnett went 0-for-6 while Florida finsihed 0-for-5 on the man advantage.
The Gladiators continue the 2008-09 season on Friday, November 14th as they host the Charlotte Checkers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m.

The league has drawn over four million fans each of the last five years and 11 times in the past 12 seasons.
