Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Stockton, CA - A Friday night match-up saw the Salmon Kings and the Stockton Thunder clash at the Stockton Arena. The Kings would start goaltender Jonathan Boutin and the Thunder would counter with Andrew Perugini.

In front of a near capacity Pink in the Rink crowd the Salmon Kings came out and struck first to silence the 8,027 on hand. Wes Goldie took an Olivier Filion pass and fired a shot past Perugini for the 1-0 lead 3:06 into the first. Both Perugini and Boutin made big saves to keep it a 1-0 game through one period.

The teams continued to get chances and eventually the Thunder were able to beat Boutin to tie the game. On the power play Ryan Huddy spun away from his Salmon King defender and deposited a shot top corner blocker side. The Salmon Kings would respond in the dying seconds of the period when Sean O'Connor missed on a backhand, he followed the puck behind the net, pulled it out and was stopped on the initial shot, but was able to slide the rebound in. The Salmon Kings led 2-1 after 40 minutes.

The Thunder applied the pressure in the third and were rewarded. Former Salmon King Adam Huxley found a loose rebound of a Garet Hunt shot and slid it in to tie the game 2-2. Both teams would have opportunities in the final frame, but no one lit the lamp. Overtime would not decide this one either. The teams would move to the shootout. Stockton would pull out the victory outscoring the Salmon Kings 3-1 in the shootout. Thunder 3 Salmon Kings 2 in a SO.

Victoria went 0/6=0% on the power play and Stockton ended 1/5=20%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Thunder 33-31.
