Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TOLEDO, OHIO - Edward Olivares offered a 4-for-5 effort with five runs batted in, in an 11-8 win for the Omaha Storm Chasers over the Toledo Mud Hens Tuesday evening, snapping the Chasers' 11-game losing streak that opened the month of August.
Just three pitches into the game, Omaha took a quick lead, as newcomer Bubba Thompson was hit by a pitch and Olivares drove a two-run homer to right field for a 2-0 advantage.
Five straight hits contributed to a four-run second inning as Thompson singled in Logan Porter and Olivares doubled home Nate Eaton and Angelo Castellano, then Nick Loftin grounded out to score Thompson for a 6-0 lead at the time.
Storm Chasers starting pitch Andrew Hoffmann retired seven of his first eight batters in his Triple-A debut but hit a road bump in the third inning, when six of seven Toledo batters reached base and plated five runs in the process to cut Omaha's lead to one, 6-5.
Hoffmann worked into the fifth inning but put the leadoff batter on. Brett de Geus took over for Hoffmann and allowed the inherited runner to score to tie the game, but worked out of the inning with a double play.
Jonathan Heasley pitched a perfect sixth inning behind de Geus but allowed a pair of hits and a run to give the Mud Hens the lead in the seventh. Collin Snider followed Heasley and ended the seventh inning without any further runs scoring, to keep Omaha within a run.
While the Chasers got two quick outs in the top of the eighth, Omaha rallied and put five straight batters on base to score five runs and jump ahead for a four-run lead. Porter drew a walk and Eaton doubled, then Castellano doubled the pair in to put the Chasers ahead. Thompson singled and Castellano scored on an errant throw, then Olivares doubled in Thompson, advanced to third on the throw and scored on a wild pitch.
Olivares finished the day 4-for-5 with five runs batted in and just a triple shy of the cycle, nearly achieving it but settling for a double in the eighth inning.
Snider kept Toledo quiet in the bottom of the eight and the Chasers put a pair on but failed to score in the top of the ninth, sending the game to the bottom of the ninth with Omaha up 11-7.
Jackson Kowar allowed a pair of hits and run in the home half of the ninth, but got a strikeout to end the inning and finish off Omaha's first win in August, an 11-8 win, as the two teams combined for 30 hits in the Chasers victory.
The Storm Chasers will try and make it two straight wins over the Mud Hens Wednesday at 5:35 p.m. CT with left-hander Drew Parrish headed the mound.
