Louisville Bats News Release

DES MOINES, IA - Reds' rehabber Hunter Greene tallied nine strikeouts in his third rehab start with Jason Vosler blasting his eleventh home run of the season as the Louisville Bats (60-53) dropped the series opener to the Iowa Cubs (66-46) 5-3 in extra innings.

After a clean first inning for both sides, the Bats threatened early, loading the bases in the second but ultimately were unable to strike.

Louisville put the first run on the board shortly after, plating three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Noelvi Marte led off the frame with a double, his second hit of the night. In the following at-bat, Jason Vosler swung at the first pitch he saw and blasted it over the wall in right center field to put the Bats on top 2-0. With one out in the inning, Drew Mount drove a single into left field before Michael Siani brought him home with a two a triple, pushing the Bats lead to 3-0.

The I-Cubs scratched a run across in the home half of the fourth, cutting into the Louisville lead, 3-1.

Reds' rehabber Hunter Greene was dominant in his third rehab start with the Bats. Greene tossed 5.2 strong innings, giving up a lone unearned run on one hit with nine strikeout and three walks.

Iowa continued to keep the Bats off the scoreboard, adding a run of its own in both the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 3-3.

Both offenses went down in order in the ninth, pushing the game into extra innings. The Bats were unable to take advantage of the placed runner at second, going down in order once again. Unfortunately, there would be no more chances for the Bats as Iowa launched a two-run home run of its own in the bottom of the tenth to walk off the Bats and win 5-3.

Louisville and Iowa will play game two of the six-game series tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, August 16 at Principal Park. First pitch is set for 1:08 pm E.T. as right-hander Levi Stoudt (3-4, 5.55) will toe the rubber for the Bats while fellow righty Shane Greene (0-0, 0.00) will get the ball for the I-Cubs.
