The Cedar Rapids Kernels kick off the longest home stand of the season, 11 games, on Friday, May 16. The home stand features food, fun, entertainment and fireworks - here's a rundown of what you can expect each day:
May 16-18 vs. Clinton LumberKings
The Kernels kick off a long home stand and welcome area Girl Scouts to their annual night and campout at the ballpark. We welcome students, parents and staff from Van Buren and Grant Elementary Schools and Wilson Middle School to the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
Things get started a little later on Saturday, May 17 when the Kernels take on Clinton at 6:30 pm. The Kernels welcome students, parents and staff from Coolidge and Jackson Elementary Schools and the Saints Baseball program to the game. Remember the time change - 6:30 pm on Saturday with gates opening at 5:30 pm.
Sunday is always a fun day and May 18th is no exception when the Kernels take on Clinton at 2 pm. The Kernels are wearing special pinstripe jerseys to honor Lou Gehrig on MDA/ALS Day at the ballpark, sponsored by KGAN CBS-2. The jerseys will be sold during the game via a silent auction with the proceeds to benefit MDA/ALS. Get autographs from the Kernels on the main concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm, play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game, enjoy selected snacks for $1 and play catch and run the bases after the game, courtesy of Steak N Shake, as part of 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Fun Day. Gates open at 1 pm.

Tickets are on sale for $5 each or five for $20 with the proceeds to fund area youth recreational programs and facilities supported by the Kernels Foundation. The drawing is Monday, September 1st during the Kernels game vs. Clinton at 2 pm. You need not be present to win, but you must be 16 years or older to buy a ticket or win the raffle. The winner is responsible for the tax, title and license fees. Tickets can be purchased at all Kernel home games and in the Bimm Ridder Diamond Shop during normal business hours (10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday).
