West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

FORT WAYNE, IN - For the second day in a row, the Whitecaps blew a 4-0 lead and lost by a score of 7-5 to Fort Wayne.

Wilton Garcia allowed three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Wizards erased a 5-4 deficit and took the lead for good.

Andy Parrino had the go-ahead RBI single in the eighth and went 4-for-5 at the plate for the Wizards, who took three of four in the series from the 'Caps.

West Michigan grabbed a 5-4 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Joe Tucker. It was Tucker's second double of the game as he finished 2-for-4.

Three runs in the first inning and another in the third put the Whitecaps on top, 4-0. Paul Nardozzi allowed five hits and did not issue a walk in four innings in his second spot start of the year.

However, the Wizards rallied for two runs in the fifth and another pair of runs in the sixth, which tied the game, 4-4. One of the runs in each inning, including the tying run, scored on balks by reliever Andrew Hess.

With two balks by Hess the Whitecaps have committed 11 balks this season, which is more than the previous two years combined (3 in 2006 and 7 in 2007).

Casper Wells, who established a Midwest League record on May 2 when he was hit by pitches four times in a single game, was hit by pitches in each of his first two plate appearances on Thursday. In the first inning, Wells scored on a double steal as Kody Kaiser took second base on the same play.

Derek McDaid pitched a scoreless eighth inning to earn the win while Jackson Quezada tossed a scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the series and fourth on the season.

Chris Carlson had two RBI for the Whitecaps.
