Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
River Bandits fans may think that the Parthenon is right around the corner when June 6-7 roll around, as Modern Woodmen Park will transform into Ancient Greece's Delphi Stadium and the River Bandits will serve as proud hosts for the Greek Cultural Fest this summer.
Previously held on the John Deere Commons in Moline, IL, the Greek Cultural Fest will cross Centennial Bridge and switch venues for the 2008 festival. The event, which celebrates Greek culture in the Quad Cities, will feature fireworks on both Friday and Saturday night, a variety of Greek foods and pastries, live music courtesy of The Grecian Keys, a wine tasting, dancing, and shopping. There will also be a large kid's zone with inflatable games and other activities, ensuring that the event will be full of entertainment for those of all ages.
"We're proud to add another great event to a summer lineup at Modern Woodmen Park that is already full of great fun and entertainment," said team owner Dave Heller. "Whether it's baseball, live concerts, the circus, or a cultural festival such as this, we take pride in offering our fans a host of different entertainment options. Modern Woodmen Park is a lot more than a typical baseball diamond, it's a multi-purpose community jewel. And the River Bandits look forward to hosting the Greek Cultural Fest and many more events in the months and years to come. One thing you can be sure of: There is always something fun happening at Modern Woodmen Park."
The Greek Cultural Fest will begin on Friday, June 6, at 5:00 p.m. and last until 11:00 p.m. The festivities will continue all day on Saturday, June 7, starting at 11:00 a.m. and extending until 11:00 p.m. The Grecian Keys will perform live starting at 5:00 on Friday and Noon on Saturday. The Olympian Dance Troupe from Chicago will also be on hand, hitting the stage on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Saturday every two hours from Noon to 8:00 p.m. The wine tasting will take place on Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Mediacom Sports Lounge on the concourse of Modern Woodmen Park, hosted by Dimitri Wine and Spirits.
"We were thrilled when the River Bandits approached us with the idea of hosting our festival inside the stadium," said Diane Lamacki, Co-Director of the Greek Cultural Fest. "This partnership enables us to enhance the event by adding fireworks, introducing new menu items, adding a fun new play area for the children, and reworking the general layout with the additional space. On top of that, we have full use of the many wonderful amenities the stadium has to offer, such as a live fan cam, the video board, the Mediacom Sports Lounge, generous seating, full-service concession stands, inflatables for the kids, and a first-rate sound system - just to name a few. It's a fabulous facility and working with the River Bandits management has been an absolute pleasure."
Admission to the event will be just $1 per person before 5:00 p.m., and $3 per person after 5:00 p.m. Children ages 13 and under will be able to enter for free.
"Modern Woodmen Park is a great facility, and it is a goal of ours to use our facility for more than just baseball," said River Bandits Assistant General Manager of Fan Experience, Keith Lucier. "Our goal is to have people think of Modern Woodmen Park as a great location for medium and large events. The Greek Cultural Fest is a fantastic event, one of the biggest and best in the Quad Cities, and we are happy to have them here to add to the fun and excitement at Modern Woodmen Park."
UP NEXT: The River Bandits are in the midst of a seven-game commuter trip that continues with the series finale in Peoria on Thursday and winds down over the weekend with a three-game series in Burlington.
