Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - With rising gas prices this holiday season, the Kane County Cougars are inviting fans to kick off their summer season with affordable family fun, as the organization begins an exciting Memorial Day weekend homestand on Friday, May 23. Fireworks shows, special between-innings entertainment, promotions and even ballpark campouts are all on the docket throughout the Memorial Day weekend. Here's a look at the holiday homestand:

Friday May 23, 4 p.m. (Doubleheader)

Get a head start on the holiday weekend as the Cougars welcome the Quad Cities River Bandits, a Class-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. Both teams will be working overtime as they play a pair of seven-inning games due to a rainout from earlier this season. Fans are encouraged to bring the noise, and a Country Insurance THUNDER STIXX giveaway for the first 2,000 fans will provide a home field advantage to fend off any pesky River Bandits attack. MYRON NOODLEMAN, a true nerd's nerd, makes his first appearance at Elfstrom Stadium in '08. The jokester will attempt to lure fans, umpires, and players into his comedic routine. Following the game, fans will be treated to the season's first FIREWORKS show as the nighttime display will be accompanied with a soundtrack of ‘80's music. Fans will also have a chance to RUN THE BASES. Finally, scouts will enjoy a movie and a night under the stars with an ALL-SCOUT CAMPOUT. This popular event, open to Brownies, Cub, Boy and Girl scout groups, also includes breakfast the following morning. Campout reservations are going quickly and the Cougars are encouraging all interested scout groups to make plans today by calling the Cougars at (630) 232-8811(advance registration required).

Saturday May 24, 6 p.m. (Gates open at 4 p.m.)

Fan-friendly entertainment will be filled to the brim as fans are invited onto the field at 5:30 p.m. for a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION with Cougars players. Once the game begins, keep your eye on the field for the ZOOPERSTARS, who will perform between innings. The popular mascot troupe spoofs real-life athletes and features notable names such as Clammy Sosa, Harry Canary, and Cow Ripken, Jr. Get ready for a high-flying display that defies gravity as the JESSE WHITE TUMBLERS perform on the field immediately following the game. A dazzling FIREWORKS show set to Beatles music will have fans twisting and shouting. Before leaving, fans can touch ‘em all as the Cougars invite everyone to RUN THE BASES.

Sunday, May 25, 6 p.m. (Gates open at 4 p.m.)

Another evening of family fun is on tap as the Cougars kick off the festivities with a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION for all fans on the field. When fans return to their seats, they'll be treated to a dramatic landing on the field by SKYDIVERS, who will arrive on the Elfstrom Stadium grass just in time for the game's first pitch. BIRDZERK makes his first appearance of the season as the multi-talented feathered friend of the Cougars performs his awesome routine between innings. Caution to River Bandits players: don't let Birdzerk steal your mitt! Our third and final FIREWORKS display of the weekend will feature patriotic music. Close the evening with a fantastic opportunity to RUN THE BASES on the same infield that the Cougars play on. Finally, campers will be pitching their tents for a FAMILY CAMPOUT that will include a reserved seat ticket for Sunday night's game, a post-game movie on the big screen, an overnight stay in the Cougars campground, and a complimentary hot breakfast the following morning (advance registration is required).

Monday, May 26, 1 p.m. (Gates open at 11 a.m.)

Celebrate the holiday with some day baseball, as the Cougars will be sporting special patriotic jerseys instead of their typical home whites. Fans can meet the players beforehand with a pre-game AUTOGRAPH SESSION on the field. This game is also a chance for students participating in OZZIE'S READING CLUB to exchange their complimentary ticket voucher for a free reserved seat, as well as a hot dog, soda, and t-shirt voucher. Students who successfully completed the program, as well as their families, are invited to take part in a pre-game PARADE. Before heading home for the day, fans can test their running (or light jogging) skills by hitting the Elfstrom Stadium field for RUN THE BASES.

Tickets are going quickly, but seats are still available for all four games over the holiday weekend. Fans can get their seats today by calling the Cougars box office at (630) 232-8811, ordering online at www.kccougars.com, or by visiting the Cougars box office.
