May 15, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels were shut out for the second consecutive game, 4-0, by the Kane County Cougars on Thursday night at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, IL. Cougar starter Jamie Richmond (4-2) held the Kernels to one hit and struck out nine over eight innings pitched.

The Kernels lone hit came in the top of the eighth inning as Andrew Romine singled to left field. The Kernels drew two walks and reached on three Kane County errors, but stranded all six runners.

Kernels starter Michael Davitt (1-3) allowed four runs on five hits, walked two and struck out two over 5.1 innings. Chris Armstrong and Ysmael Carmona combined to allow two hits and keep Kane County from scoring. Walks continue to plague the Kernels as the pitching staff issued seven free passes.

The Kernels return home to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium and open an 11 game home stand that features food, fun, entertainment and fireworks. The first game is Friday, May 16 as the Kernels host Clinton at 6:30 pm with the gates opening at 5:30 pm.
