Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts turned a powerful four-run third inning into a 4-2 win over the Dayton Dragons before 5,214 fans at Oldsmobile Park Thursday night. The win earned a split of the series for the Lugnuts, who have now won back-to-back games for the first time since a four game winning streak ended on April 25th.

It was a scoreless affair until the third when newcomer Eric Eiland doubled in his first at-bat as a Lugnut to start the inning. Mike McDade then singled him home to put the Lugnuts ahead 1-0. Justin Jackson later singled and Kevin Ahrens brought everyone home with a three-run homer to push the lead to 4-0. It was his first round-tripper of the season.

The run support was more than enough for the Lugnuts pitching staff, which continued its stretch of dominating outings.

Brad Mills (3-2) led the way this time by tossing 5 2/3 innings of shutout baseball. He scattered four hits and fanned eight in the start.

Edgar Estanga got the save for the Lugnuts, his second of the year, by recording the game's final three outs.

The only runs of the game for Dayton scored in the seventh inning. Kevyn Feiner hit a solo homer and Keltavious Jones ripped an RBI single, but the Dragons would leave two runners on the base paths when Brandon Waring struck out looking to end the frame.

Lansing's pitching staff has now allowed just 10 earned runs over the last eight games.

Luis Montano (5-2) suffered the loss for the Dragons after giving up all four runs to Lansing. He lasted five innings and also allowed seven hits in the contest.

Lansing (19-19) will now head to West Michigan on Friday night to begin a four-game, three-day series. The Lugnuts and Whitecaps will play a doubleheader Friday in order to make-up last Sunday's rainout. First pitch for the twin bill is set for 6:35 p.m.
