Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Daric Barton's double in the bottom of the 15th inning gave the Sacramento River Cats their 11th walk-off win of the season, a 3-2 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies, and new record, during the Wednesday night game at Raley Field. The Cats and Grizzlies were knotted in extra innings until Barton's double brought the longest game of the season to an end.
With no runs scored in the first three innings, the Fresno Grizzlies made it on the board first in the top of the fourth as their catcher Andrew Susac stepped to the plate and drove in teammate Ehire Adrianza on a sacrifice fly. The River Cats answered back during the same inning when Andy Parrino stepped to the plate and homered off of the Grizzlies RHP Chris Heston, bringing the score to 1-1.
In the top of the 15th, with Adalberto Santos on third, and two outs, Gary Brown singled on a line drive to left fielder Shane Peterson, allowing Santos to score, giving Fresno a 2-1 lead. Sacramento's Luis Exposito doubled on a line drive, which was followed by Nick Buss being walked by Heath Hembree. Peterson singled on a ground ball sending Exposito home, tying the game at two. In the final play of the night Barton doubled, driving in Buss giving the Cats the 3-2 walk-off win.
Wednesday night's game, ending in the 15th inning, was the longest game played of the season. Parrino went 1-for-7 with one run and an RBI, while Peterson and Barton both went 2-for-7 with an RBI.
Heston (7-3, 3.49 ERA) tossed eight innings with one earned run, five hits, and three strikeouts. Hembree took the loss while giving up two earned runs and three hits. Adrianza went 1-for-2 with one run and a strikeout and Susac finished 0-for-4 with an RBI.
Sacramento's starter Matt Buschmann (5-4, 4.48 ERA) gave up one run on five hits with seven strikeouts in seven innings of work. Philip Humber took the win as he gave Fresno one earned run, two hits, and three strikeouts in three innings of work. Fernando Rodriguez gave up two hits and one strikeout in one inning of work, Evan Scribner collected four strikeouts in two innings of work, and Jeremy McBryde gave up two hits, with three strikeouts in two innings of work.
The Sacramento River Cats and Fresno Grizzlies will conclude their series tomorrow night during Raley Field's July 3 Independence Day Celebration. Sacramento right-hander Zach Neal (2-2, 4.96 ERA) will take on the Fresno Grizzlies righty Mitch Lively (4-4, 5.67 ERA) with the first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
