Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - River Cats outfielder and Pacific Coast League hits leader Shane Peterson has been named a starter in the 27th Annual Triple-A All-Star Game, which will take place on July 16, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C.
This will be the first Triple-A All-Star Game appearance for Peterson, who leads the PCL in hits (106), games played (84), and at-bats (339). The versatile outfielder also ranks fourth with 23 doubles and third with 57 runs scored. This is the fourth All-Star nod of Peterson's career, having previously been named to All-Star teams in the Florida State, New York-Penn, and Texas Leagues.
Peterson is hitting .313 on the year with 57 runs scored, five home runs, 50 RBI, 11 stolen bases and a .821 OPS. He also delivered the second of his club's 11 walk-off wins on May 10 with a game-winning bunt single in the 11th inning against the Salt Lake Bees at Raley Field.
2014 is Peterson's fourth different season with the River Cats, having made his debut with the club in 2011. The Temecula, Calif.-native has appeared in 295 games with Sacramento, hitting a combined .293 with a .384 on-base percentage, 30 home runs, and 34 stolen bases. He made his Major League debut a year ago, appearing in two games with the Oakland Athletics where he went 1-for-7 with a walk and an RBI.
Peterson was Sacramento's only 2014 All-Star selection. This will be the second-consecutive season that a River Cats outfielder will start the Triple-A All-Star Game as Michael Choice represented the club as the PCL's starting center fielder a season ago.
