Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - The Pacific Coast League announced today the roster for the 2014 PCL All-Star Team, and three Storm Chasers have been elected as starters for this year's team. Outfielder Paulo Orlando, catcher Francisco Pena and reliever Spencer Patton will be members of the squad that will take on the International League's best on July 16 at the home of the Durham Bulls. The game will be broadcast on MLB Network at 6:00 p.m. CDT.

Paulo Orlando is having a career year in his third PCL season as he ranks second in the league in hits at 99, is tied for the league lead in steals at 24 and ranks in the top ten in batting average at .318 (99-for-311). He leads the Chasers with six triples, is tied for the second most RBI at 37 and his 138 total bases are tied for the team lead. Orlando is the first Brazilian born player to ever be elected to the Triple-A All-Star Game, and has already surpassed his 2013 hit total (81) and steal total (8) in 91 games last season in just 82 games in 2014.

Francisco Pena leads the Storm Chasers with 14 home runs this season, the most of any PCL catcher. The 14 long balls are also a career high for the son of former Royals manager Tony Pena, and nearly matches his total from the last two seasons combined (16). Pena has thrown out more than 41 percent of would-be base stealers this season (21-for-51), which is the top percentage among PCL catchers with more than 40 attempts against them.

Spencer Patton has the third most saves in the PCL this season at 14, and converted each of his first 14 save opportunities to start 2014. In his first season beginning at the Triple-A level, Patton allowed just four runs in his first 35.1 innings. The right-hander leads all Storm Chasers relievers with 47 strikeouts.

The three Omaha All-Stars will be recognized pre-game tomorrow night on July 4th as part of First National Bank Independence Weekend Fireworks, the biggest fireworks show in the Omaha Metro, when the Storm Chasers kick off a seven-game homestand with division rivals Colorado Springs and Iowa.
