'Cats Return to "The Joe" Thursday, Look to Clinch Stedler Division Title
August 28, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY- During this upcoming homestand, the Tri-City ValleyCats will have the opportunity to win their fifth New York-Penn League Stedler Division title in their 12-year history. It would also be the first time that they have ever won back-to-back division titles.
The 'Cats record stands at 41-26, four games better than the Lowell Spinners with only nine regular season games remaining.
After a rubber game against the Cyclones in Brooklyn on Wednesday night, the 'Cats return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Thursday for a doubleheader versus the Vermont Lake Monsters. Game 1 begins at 5pm, with Game 2 beginning approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 1.
The ValleyCats could clinch the division title as early as after the second game of their doubleheader on Thursday. Their .612 winning percentage is good for third best in the league, only 1.5 games behind league best State College (.636) followed by Jamestown (.621).
On Friday, the 'Cats host the Lake Monsters again with the first pitch scheduled for 7pm. Then the 'Cats hit the road for a short two game series in Lowell against the Spinners. They return to "The Joe" on Labor Day for the final regular season series against New York Mets affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones (September 2-4).
Should the 'Cats clinch the division, their first home playoff game would take place on either Friday, September 6 or Saturday, September 7. Both the semi-final series and championship series are best two-of-three.
The team that owns the best record in the league will face the Wild Card winner, regardless of whether they are in the same division. The other two division winners will then match up against one another.
As it currently stands, the Wild Card winner looks to come out of the Pinckney Division, with it either being the State College Spikes (42-24) or Jamestown Jammers (41-25). One of those teams will almost definitely win the Pinckney Division title.
The Aberdeen IronBirds (34-30) and Brooklyn Cyclones (35-32), separated by just 1/2 game, are fighting it out for the McNamara Division title. The 2012 NYPL defending champion Hudson Valley Renegades (33-34) are 2.5 games behind.
Tickets for potential playoff games at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium are on-sale now. They are available for purchase online at tcvalleycats.com, by phone at 518-629-CATS, or at the stadium box office.
