Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

NILES, Ohio- The Scrappers pitching staff saved best for last Wednesday night, as it was pure dominance on the mound for Mahoning Valley. Four pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, as the Scrappers won 2-1 over Jamestown.

It all started with Cole Sulser on the bump. He gave up a run on two hits in the first inning, but was lights out the rest of his outing. He struck out 10 Jammers, doubling his season-high, through six innings on the mound. He also faced the minimum through his final five innings.

Relievers Carlos Melo, Harold Guerrero and Kerry Doane would follow Sulser, striking out five of their own. The Scrappers offense was courtesy of 1st baseman Nellie Rodriguez.

His 9th homer of the year and an RBI single gave the Scrappers all the runs they would need. Melo would pick up the win (1-1), Jammers reliever Will Kendall the loss (0-2). Doane would pick up his first save as well.

The Scrappers head back to Eastwood Field tomorrow to play Auburn for the final two home contests of the season. First pitch for will be 7:05. Call (330)-505-0000 to get your tickets.
