Scrappers Rally to Knock off Jammers
August 28, 2013 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Jamestown Jammers News Release
Jamestown, NY- The Jammers scored the games first run on Wednesday night but would fall 2-1 as the Scrappers scored the eventual game winning run in the eighth inning. Dovydas Neverauskas struck out five batters over five innings of work for the Jammers.
Neverauskas and the Jammers would work around two first inning hits by the Scrappers to go into the bottom half scoreless. Harold Ramirez would kick things off for the Jammers with his 11th double of the season against Mahoning Valley starter Cole Sulser. The following at bat, Adam Frazier would give Jamestown 1-0 lead with an RBI double to score Ramirez.
The first inning run would turn out to be the only one that would cross home plate for the Jammers against a very effective Sulser. The only blemish on the night for Neverauskas would come in the fourth inning against Nellie Rodriguez. Rodriguez would quickly tie up the game with his ninth home run of the season to deep left field. Both starting pitchers would pick up no-decisions on the night as Sulser struck out 10 and Neverauskas fanned five.
Back and fourth the game would go until the Scrappers would pick up their second run of the game in the eighth inning. With Will Kendall working his third inning out of the bullpen, Rodriguez would give Mahoning Valley a 2-1 lead on an RBI single. Pinch hitter Claudio Bautista would score the run after picking up a single and taking second on a wild pitch.
The Jammers would try to mount a rally in the ninth inning against relief pitcher Kerry Doane. Ramirez with his second hit of the night would give the Jammers a leadoff baserunner and bring the winning run to the plate. After a flyout to left field, Ramirez would get caught in a run down accounting for the second out of the inning. Doane would get a swinging strike three to pick up his first save of the season and snap the Jammers four game winning streak.
Jamestown will head to State College Thursday to kick off a three game series with first place in the Pinckney Division on the line. The Jammers will play a double header against the Spikes on Thursday with one game separating the two ball clubs. After the Jammers four day road trip they will return home to close out the 2013 New York-Penn League regular season with three games against none other than State College.
