WINNIPEG, Man. - The RailCats rallied for three runs in the ninth inning, but fell a run short in a 6-5 loss to the Goldeyes on Sunday in the series rubber match.

Trailing 6-2 entering the ninth, the RailCats started to mount a comeback with one out. Adam Klein walked and Mike Massaro beat out an infield hit. Brian Kolb reached on an error as Klein scored to trim the lead to three. Rico Washington hit an infield single that scored Massaro and made it 6-4. After Sean Smith struck out, Kyle Haines walked to load the bases. Mike Rohde then grounded a ball off of the pitcher Nick Carr for an infield hit that scored Kolb to make it a one-run game. With the bases still loaded, Craig Maddox struck out to end the game.

The 'Cats took the lead in the fourth, as Klein led off with a double to left. Massaro layed down a drag bunt and reached safely for a single as Klein moved to third. Mike Coles hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Klein and put the RailCats ahead 1-0.

RailCats starting pitcher Andrew Johnston was removed from the game after 1 1/3 innings with an injury. Nolan Nicholson replaced him and left in the fifth inning with two on and two out. Chuck Lukanen entered the game and walked Jon Weber to load the bases. The next batter, Yurendell de Caster, blasted a grand slam to left to give the Goldeyes a 4-1 lead.

Haines singled to start the seventh and moved to second on an error by right fielder Josh Mazzola. Rohde doubled off the wall in center to score Haines and cut the lead to 4-2. Mike Massaro hit a two-out single, but Rohde was thrown out at home to end the inning.

The Goldeyes added much-needed insurance in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Josh Mazzola hit an RBI single and Ridge Carpenter hit an RBI double to make it 6-2.

The RailCats will travel to Sioux Falls to begin a three game series on Monday night at 7:05. Stephen Hiscock (0-0, 3.24) will make his first start of the season for the RailCats.
