Lemurs Sweep Diablos

Laredo, TX - The Laredo Lemurs jumped out to an early lead and held on tight for a 7-6 win over the El Paso Diablos to sweep the series and move to 8-8 on the year.

Laredo put up a four runs on six hits in the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Three straight hits started the inning for the Lemurs as Kevin Butler, Anthony Scelfo, and Brain Peterson all singled. After Jeff Vincent hit into a double play, Jimmy Mojica singled to drive in a run and John Allen doubled to drive in two. Allen finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk and half of the team's four RBI.

In the third Anthony Scelfo would park his third homerun of the season. He took the outside pitch over the left field wall for an opposite field homerun which helped the Lemurs jump out to a 5-0 lead.

The Diablos made a run from the fourth through the sixth as they put up five runs tie the game.

The Lemurs would pull out a run in the sixth and a run in the seventh to help them win the game 7-6 over the struggling El Paso Diablos.

Robert Romero (1-0) picked up the win in his first appearance out of the bullpen for the Laredo Lemurs. Romero was clocked at 95 mph during one at bat. He never fell below 90 mph in the frame.

The Lemurs hit the road for a series against the Grand Prairie Airhogs Monday through Wednesday and will be home to take on the Amarillo Sox Thursday through Friday at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo, Texas.
