
Wingnuts Sweep AirHogs, Win 11th Straight

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the Grand Prairie AirHogs 9-4 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Wingnuts extend their franchise-best winning streak to 11 games.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second, C.J. Ziegler doubled into the left field corner and advanced to third on David Peralta's groundout to first. Taylor Freeman plated Ziegler with a sacrifice fly to center field.
In the third, the Wingnuts scored twice to take the lead for the remainder of the game. Ryan Khoury bunted for a single leading off and moved to second on Jake Kahaulelio's single through the left side. A John Rodriguez sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third, and the Wingnuts took a 3-2 lead when Juan Richardson lined a single to left that scored Khoury and Kahaulelio.
Ryan Hinson earned the win for the Wingnuts, allowing two earned runs on seven hits in seven innings. Hinson walked two, struck out two, and improved to 3-0 on the season. Hinson is now 10-1 lifetime at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Wichita broke the game open with a five-run bottom of the fifth. Mike Conroy was hit by a pitch leading off. Khoury sliced a long single to right center that chased Conroy to third. Conroy came in with the Wingnuts' fourth run of the afternoon when center fielder Keanon Simon bobbled Khoury's base hit. After Kahaulelio singled to put runners on first and third, Rodriguez crushed a three-run home run to right-center that made it 7-2. Richardson followed with a double down the left field line and scored later in the inning on a two-out, RBI single from Peralta.
Cody White started and took the loss for Grand Prairie. White allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits in four-plus innings. White walked one and struck out two.
Wichita added their final run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single from Kahaulelio. Kahaulelio went 4 for 4 with two runs and one RBI.
Grand Prairie scored twice in the top of the second to take an early lead on a leadoff home run from Greg Porter and a two-out single from Simon.
Jeff Nadeau worked a scoreless ninth to close out the game. Right-hander Robert Roth made his Wingnuts' debut in the top of the eighth. Tommy Fitzgerald, just signed on Saturday, pinch hit for Kahaulelio in the bottom of the eighth and remained in the game at second base.
