Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

KANSAS CITY, KS - The Amarillo Sox might have had their best team pitching game on Sunday night, but it wasn't enough as the Kansas City T-Bones avoided a three-game sweep with a 2-1 win in ten innings at Community America Ballpark

Sox reliever Trent Lare (1-2) got the loss, allowing two hits and the game-winning sacrifice fly in the tenth. T-Bones reliever Jacob Wiley (1-0) got the win, allowing just one hit in an inning and a third of work.

Kansas City started off the scoring with a leadoff solo homerun in the first inning. The Sox responded in the fourth inning with a leadoff homerun from Adam Buschini to tie the game at 1-1.

Those runs would be the majority of the offense for the game as Sox starter Chuck Lofgren allowed only the homerun through six innings, while T-Bones starter Josh Rainwater also allowed only the solo homerun through eight innings.

The game would be left in the hands of the bullpen.

Sox reliever Phil Bartleski pitched perfect seventh and eighth innings to keep Kansas City at bay. In the ninth, Buschini singled with one out, stole second and took third on a wild pitch. Tim Alberts was intentionally walked and stole second to put two runners in scoring position, but Alberto Espinosa grounded out to end the inning.

Amarillo reliever Wes Littleton pitched a perfect ninth to send the game into extra innings.

In the tenth, the T-Bones finally broke through against Sox pitching. Ray Sadler singled to lead off while Kala Ka'aihue singled to put runners on the corners. Trevor Coleman delivered a sacrifice fly to score Sadler from third and give Kansas City the 2-1 win in 10 innings.

With the loss, the Sox fall to 8-8 while the T-Bones improve to 8-8. Monday, Amarillo will travel home to take on the El Paso Diablos for the opening game of the three-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm.
