American Association Game Recaps

June 3, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release

Sioux Falls 3, Lincoln 2

A bloop single by SS Cory Morales won the game for the Pheasants in the bottom of the tenth, as C Al Quintana crossed the plate. Quintana had singled to lead off the inning to start the rally. He had a part in every Sioux Falls run, as he hit a two-run home run in the second inning. Quintana finished the day 2-for-4. After the home run, Lincoln tied the game at 2-2 in the third. Both sides were held scoreless after that until extra innings. Sioux Falls LHP Mitchell Clegg and Lincoln RHP Ryan Sheldon overcame the early runs to shut down their opponents the rest of the way. Ultimately, Sioux Falls RHP Dan Cooper was credited with the win in relief.

Wichita 9, Grand Prairie 4

A five-run fifth inning assured a win for the Wichita Wingnuts over the Grand Prairie AirHogs, 9-4. The Wingnuts took their first lead of the game in the third inning on a two-run single by 3B Juam Richardson. Then, with a two-run lead in the fifth inning, DH John Rodriguez connected for a three-run home run to expand the lead. LHP Ryan Hinson held strong through seven innings to get the win. He allowed two runs on eight hits.

Winnipeg 6, Gary SouthShore 5

A three-run rally by Gary SouthShore in the ninth made for a dicey ending in Winnipeg, but the Goldeyes held on for the win, 6-5. The RailCats trailed 6-2 heading into the ninth, but cut the lead to one. After cutting down the deficit, Gary SouthShore had the bases loaded with two outs and had a chance to pull off a late comeback. With the pressure on, RHP Nick Carr struck out Craig Maddox and secured the win for Winnipeg. Carr had been called on to get out of a jam in the eighth and worked out of his own trouble in the ninth to earn the save in 1.1 innings. The Goldeyes deciding runs came in the eighth inning, when RF Josh Mazzola and LF Ridge Carpenter hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Those runs helped RHP Andrew E. Walker pick up his second win of the season.

Newark 7, St. Paul 1

The Newark Bears used the long ball to top St. Paul, 7-1. Newark struck first in the second inning with back-to-back home runs by DH Burt Reynolds and RF Eric McGee. In the fifth inning, 1B Daryle Ward expended the lead with a three-run home run. SS Alex Bardeguez was the Bears' most consistent hitter, leading the team with a 3-for-4 performance. On the mound, RHP Mike Ness earned his second win of the season. Ness went seven innings, allowing one run on six hits.
