'Cats Can't Find Clutch Hit in Loss to Tigers

The Tri-City ValleyCats left 23 runners on base and struck out 13 times en route to a 9-5 loss to the Connecticut Tigers in the second game of the season. The 'Cats were caught looking on nine of the 13 strikeouts.

Ben Smith (0-1) took the loss for the ValleyCats, allowing eight runs (five earned) on three hits and four walks in one inning of work. Smith pitched to three batters in the top of the second inning.

Hector Perez and Edgardo Sandoval combined for 6 2/3 innings of shutout baseball, striking out seven. Josue Uribe came on to pitch the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit.

The 'Cats offense was led by LF Stephen Wrenn, who reached base in all five of his plate appearances. Wrenn walked and singled twice, and led off the game with a double. He's now reached base in nine of his eleven plate appearances this season.

Daz Cameron, who made an over the shoulder, diving catch in centerfield in the 5th inning, was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

The Tigers received a three-run homerun from Joey Havrilak (1) in the top of the second. Connecticut scored eight of their nine runs in the first two innings.

Leadoff man Cole Bauml and 3B Josh Lester combined to walk six times, scoring four runs between the two.

The ValleyCats are back in action tomorrow night, opening a three game series at the Brooklyn Cyclones. First pitch for Sunday's game is set for 4:00 p.m., with Monday and Tuesday's contests beginning at 7:00 p.m.

Monday: RHP Adcock vs. LHP Huertas

Tuesday: LHP Kessay vs. RHP Manoah / RHP Jacobson
