Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

FISHKILL, NY - 24 hours after winning their first game of the season, the Hudson Valley Renegades suffered their first loss of 2016 with a 3-2 loss to Aberdeen on Saturday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Aberdeen drew blood in the first. With one out, back-to-back singles put runners at first and second before designated hitter Randolph Gassaway laced a double into the left-centerfield gap to give Aberdeen a 2-0 lead.

Hudson Valley responded with a run in the bottom-half as a throwing error on a double-play attempt by Aberdeen allowed shortstop Joseph Astacio to score from second to make the score 2-1.

The Renegades tied the score in similar fashion in the fourth on yet another throwing error by the Ironbirds. With rightfielder Angel Perez at second and two out, a routine grounder was thrown away by third baseman Frank Crinella allowing Perez to score and knot the game up at two.

Aberdeen retook the lead in the sixth as back-to-back walks with one out by Renegades reliever Garrett Fulenchek and a passed ball put runners at second and third with one out. First baseman Ronarsy Ledesma then reached on a bouncing infield single to short to give the Ironbirds the lead.

From there the bullpens took over as Mike Burke (1) picked up the save for Aberdeen tossing 3.1 scoreless innings. Renegade righty Noel Rodriguez was also impressive in relief retiring all 10 men he faced in 3.1 innings.

Consecutive singles by the Renegades with two outs in the ninth inning gave the home team a chance, however Burke got centerfielder Oscar Rojas to ground into a fielder's choice to end the game.

Aberdeen starter Travis Seabrooke (1-0) picked up the win after allowing one earned run in 5.2 innings of work. Fulenchek (0-1) took the loss for Hudson Valley after allowing a run on a hit with two walks in 0.2 innings.

Hudson Valley got another solid outing from their starter as Eduar Lopez allowed two runs on five hits in three innings of work.

The Renegades hit the road for a three-game series against State College, which ends Tuesday. Hudson Valley will return to Dutchess Stadium next Wednesday as they begin a three-game series against the Lowell Spinners. First pitch is set for 7:05.
