Lexington Legends News Release
CHARLESTON, WV - "Big Papi" Brian Pellegrini kept the Legends chugging through the early going en route to their 8-7 win over the West Virginia Power. Pellegrini accounted for Lexington's first four runs with four RBI before Lexington's bats heated up in the back stretch. The Legends were outhit 14-12 in the contest, but Lexington's club came up with the big hits it needed to break up the team's three-game losing streak.
West Virginia's Amaury Rivas worked through two Legends batters to begin the game, but walked Eric Taylor with two outs. Cleanup hitter Pellegrini made Rivas pay for that mistake with two-run homer to left field for the swift 2-0 lead. A soaring shot from the Power's designated hitter Curt Rindal tied the game up at two in the bottom of the second, another two out home run.
The Power muscled another ball over the fences to take their first lead of the game in the third inning. Caleb Gindl homered with no one out before starter Jeff Icenogle recovered to end the frame with a strikeout.
Pellegrini struck again in the top of the sixth with an eerily similar two-run jack over the left field fences. His team-leading 10th homerun in just thirty games silenced the West Virginia crowd, while his fourth RBI of the day made the difference for a one run lead.
West Virginia responded with a tear in the bottom of the sixth with three runs on two outs. The Legends bounced back again to tie it up with a pair of scores in the top of the seventh, while reliever Reid Kelly held West Virginia powerless in the bottom. The Legends would hammer West Virginia reliever Pedro Lambertus as they tagged him with two earned runs in the eighth and the loss.
Kelly was awarded Lexington's win for the night while starter Jeff Icenogle failed to pick up his first W in nearly a month. Icenogle gave up six runs on two home runs while striking out four in just over five innings pitched.
